QMJHL PRE-SEASON SCHEDULE NOW UP
The pre-season schedule for the QMJHL opens August 30 and runs until September 8. The 40 games scheduled to this point have been posted under SCHEDULE in the QMJHL section.

WILDCATS INVITE FIRST FREE AGENTS TO CAMP
  MONCTON, NB, July 3, 2008 - The Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League have started extending invitations to free agent players to attend the team's training camp in August. So far invites have been extended to three Maritime players.
 
RANDY JONES AGREES TO NEW DEAL WITH FLYERS
  PHILADELPHIA, PA, July 3, 2008 - Quispamis, NB defenceman Randy Jones Flyers has agreed to a two-year contract extension with Philadelphia Flyers, General.Manager Paul Holmgren revealed earlier this week. Jones was a restricted free agent.
 
SCOUTS FROM ALL OVER SEE LARGEST SHOWCASE
  CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI - July 2, 2008 - The largest female prospects camp ever in the history of the Annual Atlantic Hockey Showcase/Atlantic Female Prospect Camp and one of the largest male showcases will wrap up Thursday at the MacLauchlan Arena on the UPEI campus here in Charlottetown.

 
MICHAEL RYDER IS A BRUIN NOW
  BOSTON, MA, July 2, 2008 - New foundland native Michael Ryder is now a Boston Bruin. Ryder, who became a free agent when he wasn't re-signed by the Montreal Canadiens has been signed to a multi-year contract, Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced late Tuesday night.
 
SHELLEY RE-SIGNS WITH SHARKS
  SAN JOSE, CA, July 2, 2008 — San Jose Sharks has re-signed Group III unrestricted free agent left wing Jody Shelley to a two-year contract, Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced. Shelley is a former member of the Halifax Mooseheads and Dalhousie University Tigers.
 
ATLANTIC JUNIOR CHOWDER TEAM NAMED
  MONCTON, NB, June 29, 2008 - Eighteen members were named to the Atlantic Canadians Junior Chowder Cup team Sunday night following a two day four team tournament held at the Tim Horton’s 4-Ice Centre in Moncton. The team will be comprised of players from all four Atlantic Provinces.

SLANEY NETS WINNER AS TEAM CANADA WINS
  ST. JOHN'S, NL, June 29, 2008 - Team Canada won the gold medals at the World Junior Ball Hockey Championships with a 4-1 victory over Slovakia Sunday afternoon in St. Johnʼs. Robert Slaneyʼs second goal of  the tournament turned out to be the game winner of the championship game.
 
EAGLES SLANEY LEADS CANADA TO GOLD FINAL
  ST. JOHN'S, NL, June 28, 2008 - With one goal and one assist Cape Breton Screaming Eagles forward Robert Slaney led Team Canada to a 3-1 win over the Czech Republic in the semifinals of the World Junior Ball Hockey Championships at Mile One Centre in St. John’s Saturday afternoon.
 
QMJHL PLAYERS EXCELNG AT WORLD BALL HOCKEY
  ST. JOHN’S, NL, June 27, 2008 - Team Canada won their first two games of the World Junior Ball Hockey Championships at Mile One Centre in St. John’s, NL with convincing wins and several Quebec Major Junior Hockey League players made the scoresheet.
 
SCREAMING EAGLES TAKE BELARUS FORWARD
  SYDNEY NS, June 27, 2008 — After months of preparation and a six-hour wait through 34 draft choices made by other general managers before him Thursday, Cape Breton Screaming Eagles General Manager Mario Durocher finally got to select the player he wanted in the 2008 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.

HOCKEY PEI ELECTS WHITLOCK PRESIDENT
  CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI, June 27, 2008 – Members of Hockey PEI elected Gordie Whitlock as president of the body at the 33rd Annual General Meeting, which took place on Thursday June 26, 2008 at the Rodd Royalty Inn in Charlottetown.
 
TITAN GET THEIR MAN, A SLOVAKIAN
  BATHURST, NB, June 26, 2006 - The Acadie-Bathurst Titan picked a Slovakian player in the CHL’s European Draft held Thursday. The Moncton Wildcats went to Belarus to get a 17 year-old forward with their second pick, obtained from Halifax Mooseheads.
 
MOOSEHEADS REACH AGREEMENT FOR SNOW
  HALIFAX, NS, June 26, 2008 - Nineteen-year-old forward Matt Snow, Halifax Mooseheads sixth selection in the 2006 QMJHL Entry Draft, has reached an agreement with the team that will see him join the Mooseheads for the 2008-09 season, Halifax General Manager Marcel Patenaude announced Thursday.
 
WILDCATS NAB NHL DRAFT PICK IN IMPORT DRAFT
  MONCTON, NB, June 26, 2008 - The Moncton Wildcats selected Vyacheslav Voinov as their first choice, fifth overall in the 2008 CHL import draft. Voinov was selected by the Los Angeles Kings 32nd overall in the 2008 NHL draft. PEI Rocket took a 19 year-old offensive Swede with their first choice.
 
X-MEN ADD TO COACHING STAFF
  ANTIGONISH, NS, June 26, 2008 - Norm Batherson will be joining the St. Francis Xavier University X-Men men's hockey program as a full-time assistant coach in time for the start of the season, the StFX Department of Athletics and X-Men hockey head coach Brad Peddle announced Thursday.
 
SEA DOGS SIGN THEIR TOP DRAFT PICK
  SAINT JOHN, NB --- The Saint John Sea Dogs has signed the team’s top pick in the 2008 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Entry Draft, Rothesay Netherwood School Riverhawks defenceman Kevin Gagne, to an entry-level contract. Gagne was Saint John’s first pick (second round, 32nd overall) at the QMJHL Entry Draft on June 7 in Sydney, NS.
 
FOUR FROM REGION INVITED TO JUNIOR CAMP
  CALGARY, AB, June 26, 2008 - Four Atlantic Canadiens are among 45 of Canada’s top junior-aged players (born in 1989 or later) that have been invited to attend Canada’s National Junior Team development camp from July 25-29, 2008 in Ottawa, ON.
 
FOUR ATLANTIC CANADIANS INVITED TO U-18 CAMP
  CALGARY, AB, June 25, 2008 – Four Atlantc Canadians and two ther players from maritime based Quebec Major Junior Hockey League teams are among the 40 players who have been invited to try out for the National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team at a camp in Calgary August 1-6, 2008.
 
PANTHERS SECURE ANOTHER ONTARIO NETMINDER
  CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI, June 24, 2008 - The UPEI Panthers have gone to Ontario again to secure another goaltender for the 2008-09 season season Wayne Savage of the Ontario Hockey League’s Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors has committed to join the team this fall.
 
GLACE BAY FORWARD FIRST OVERALL PICK
  AMHERST, NS, June 22, 2008 - Wayne Bedecki of Glace Bay, NS became not only the first overall selection at the 2008 Maritime Junior A Hockey League Draft but also the first player ever selected by the new Halifax junior A team.
 
LUMBERJACKS USE DRAFT AND TRADES TO BUILD
  BRIDGEWATER, NS, June 22, 2008 - The Bridgewater Nauss TIM-BR Mart Lumberjacks were busy this weekend at the annual Maritime Junior A Hockey League Draft held at the Amherst Stadium in Amherst, NS completing three trades and drafting nine players.

  AMHERST, N.S. - June 21, 2008 - The Maritime Junior A Hockey League handed out their top awards just prior to the MJAHL Midget Draft today in Amherst. Troy Ryan, head coach of the Pictou County Crushers took the Coach of the Year Award while Stu Rath was called on to accept the Executive of the Year Award on behalf of the Truro Bearcats.
