LAUNCELOTT, MACDOUGALL LEAD HUSKIES TO WIN
HALIFAX, N.S., October 25, 2008 - Captain Zoe Launcelott showed why she has the C stitched on her sweater for the Saint Mary’s women’s hockey Huskies as she led the Huskies to a 6-2 victory over the St. Thomas Tommies, in their home opener Saturday night at Alumni Arena..

Launcelott scored twice and assisted on another, Danielle MacDougall chipped in three helpers and Jill Robinson was solid between the pipes stopping 34 shots as the Huskies picked up their first win of the year,  It’s the first win in three tries for SMU while STU drops to 1-2 on the year with the defeat.

The Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey contest was played before about 150 fans.

Both teams couldn’t get much flow going because of penalty after penalty being called by the referee and by the time the second period hit, it was apparent that frustration was setting in.

In the third, after sufferring through two periods which saw them take 11 of the 17 minors called, the Huskies got their offence going, notching four goals on a Tommies squad that just when they would gvet something going, it would be halted by another whistle.

Kori Cheverie with two, Melissa Young and Lauren McCusker tallied one each.

Jessica Holt and Kayla Blackmore, both on the powerplay, scored for the Tommies, who face Dalhousie Sunday at 3 p.m.

Mia Leander made 25 of 31 saves in the loss.

The Huskies welcome the UPEI Panthers in for a 1 p.m. game
