THERE IT IS - Both Scott Judson of the Moncton Beavers (5, white) and Kyle MacDonald of the Yarmouth Mariners (19, black) spot the puck as it pops into the air after Mariners goaltender Matt Spezza blocked the original shot in the first period of Sunday's game between the two Maritime Junior A Hockey League teams. The Beavers won  the game 5-1 at the 4-Ice Centre in Moncton with four third period goals. - hockeyscene.com photo

SQUEEZE PLAY - Saturday afternoon's preseason meeting between the Fredericton Darcy Simon Canadiens and the Moncton Mark's Work Wearhouse Flyers at the Tim Horton's 4-Ice Centre was another typical Moncton-Fredericton major midget battle. This time the Flyers came out on top squeezing by the Canadiens 4-3. Speaking of squeezing by, our camera caught Brent Savoie of the Canadiens (3) squeezing by Ryan MacDonald of the Flyers (16) during the second period. The two teams meet again Sunday at 4pm at the Tork Arena in Fredericton. - hockeyscene.com photo

New York Islanders opened their preseason training camp at the Mariners Centre in Yarmouth Friday. The team flew in from New York Thursday. Last year's New York Islanders training camp generated a greater economic spinoff for both the town and province than organizers ever could have imagined. Working with a budget of $200,000, the camp generated $500,000 for Yarmouth and an additional $3 million in what equated to free advertising time for the province of Nova Scotia in media markets outside Atlantic Canada according to reports. The Islanders play four exhibition games before heading back to Long Island a week from Saturday. - photo from newyorkislanders.com
