SCREAMING EAGLES FALL TO SAGUENEENS
CHICOUTIMI, QC, January 24, 2010 - Emrik Guillemette’s hat trick led the Chicoutimi Sagueneens to a 5-2 win over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League game played in front of 3,085 fans at the Centre Georges-Vézina on Sunday afternoon.

The game was one of five in the QMJHL on Sunday afternoon and one of four involving the Atlantic Division teams.

Tomas Jurco had two goals and two assists, and Danick Gauthier scored twice as the Saint John Sea Dogs blasted the Gatineau Olympiques 8-0; Jarrad Struthers and Derek Famulare scored for PEI Rocket and Gerrad Grant scored for Halifax as the Rocket edged the Mooseheads 2-1 in a shootout that went eight rounds; and Ted Stephens had a goal and assist as Moncton skated to a 5-2 win over Quebec in the other Atlantic Division contests.

Chicoutimi scored the first goal of the game 2:35 into the period when Eric Gelinas and Alexis Piette assisted on Emrik Guillemette’s eighth of the year.

With 1:24 left in the period Alexander Lavoie found the back of the net for the eighth time this season as he scored off a rebound off the back wall on a shot that missed the net and came out to Lavoie who put the puck into an open net on the far side as Olivier Roy couldn’t cover the net in time.

Chicoutimi outshot Cape Breton 11-3 in the first period.

Guillamette scored both goals in the second period to give Chicoutimi a 4-0 lead going into the second.

His second of the game came at the 12:20 mark when Roy gave up the rebound as he made the initial save; but the puck came out and Guillamette beat him on Chicoutimi’s second shot of the period. Piette and Michael Belanger added the assists.

Guillemette’s hat trick goal came with 5:13 left in the period when the Sagueneens came in on a two on one; and with Roy out of the goal Guillemette picked up another rebound goal. Dominic Jalbert and Belanger added the assists.

Cape Breton outshot Chicoutimi 13-8 in the second.

Luke Adam became the first Cape Breton player to hit the 30 goal mark this season at the 7:14 mark of the third to break the goose egg. Jacob Lagace and Mathieu Brodeur assisted.

Jalbert and Gelinas assisted on Lavoie’s second of the game came at the 15:38 mark to put Chicoutimi up 5-1.

Maxime Legault and Francis Meilleur helped Viktor Hertzberg find the twine for the 19th time this year with six seconds left in regulation to end the final score at 5-2.

Shots on goal favoured Chicoutimi 12-9 in the third and 31-25 overall.

Roy drops to 21-18-0 with the loss; while Robin Gusse picks up the win and improves to 9-14-0.

Six of the seven goals in the game were scored with the man advantage with the lone exception being Guillemette’s second. Chicoutimi had eight chances and Cape Breton seven.

Guilemette (3G) was the first star of the game, Gelinas (3A) the second, and Piette (2A) the third.
