WILDCAT AND FORMER WILDCAT WEEKLY WINNERS

BOUCHERVILLE, QC, January 25, 2010 – Montreal Juniors forward Matthew Brenton and Moncton Wildcats defenceman David Savard Monday were named the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from January 18 to 24.

Brenton, a former Wildcat from Stewiacke, NS, scored three goals, including a game-winner, and added three helpers in victories over the Val d’Or Foreurs and the Saint John Sea Dogs. Moreover, he posted a +5 rating. Brenton enjoyed his best game of the week on Saturday versus the Sea Dogs, registering three points in a 6-4 win. He was named the game’s first star. The Juniors have won seven of their last ten games.

Mike Hoffman of the Sea Dogs was among those also considered for the award.

On defence, David Savard gets the nod. The Wildcats’ defenceman continues to impress. He collected two goals and three assists in three Moncton victories. Furthermore, he helped his team limit the high-powered offences of the Victoriaville Tigres, the Drummondville Voltigeurs and the Quebec Remparts to a combined seven goals. Finally, he posted a +4 rating. The Wildcats are in the midst of a ten-game winning streak.

François Lacerte of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan was among those also considered for the weekly award.
