DESCHAMPS, HRIVIK LEAD WILDCATS BACK TO WIN
CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI, February 3, 2010 -  Moncton Wildcats may be one of the top teams in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League defensively but at least two of the players are showing the team has a strong offensive side as well. Nicolas Deschamps is leading the league in scoring points and Marek Hrivik is second among league rookies.

The two built on their totals Wednesday night as they led the Wildcats back on a winning track with a 6-2 victory over PEI Rocket in front of 3004 spectators at the Charlottetown Civic Centre. Hrivik scored two goals and assisted on another while Deschamps contributed three assists.

Deschamps now has 31 goals and 43 assists for 74 points, four more than Sean Couturier of Bathurst, who plays for Drummondville Voltigeurs. Thirty of Deschamps points, 13 goals and 17 assists, have come in the 17 games he has played with the Wildcats. Hrivik has accumulated 23 goals and 24 assists in 52 games He has a plus 21.

Adam Polasek opened the scoring for the Rocket at 11:26 of the first period assisted by Matthew Hobbs and Michael Stinziani but it didn't take long for the Wildcats to respond as Ted Stephens netted his 16th of the season from Scott Brannon just 17 seconds later. Hrivik put the Cats ahead at 16:59 from Deschamps and Patrick Downe.

There was just one minor penalty called in the period The Wildcats outshot the Rocket 16-10.

 Alex Saulnier and twin brother Allain combined at 8:23 of the second for a shorthanded goal to put the Wildcats up 3-1. Hrivik scored his second of the night at 15:19 from Deschamps and David Savard for some insurance. The Cats led in shots 13-8 in the period.

Olivier Daoust scored his second goal of the season at 2:48 of the third period from Hrivik and Devon MacAusland. Scott Brannon rounded out the scoring with his 30th of the year from Savard and  Deschamps at 9:47 on a powerplay. The Wildcats doubled the Rocket 14-7 in shots on goal in the period.

Nicola Riopel, Nicola improved his record to 12-2-0 making 24 saves while Evan Mosher slipped to 15-9-0 with the loss. He made 37 saves.

The Wildcats were one for four on the powerplay while the Rocket was zero for three.

Hrivik and Deschamps for selected as the first and second stars of the game respectively and Adam Polasek of the Rocket was named third star.

The Wildcats meet the first place Saint John Sea Dogs in round 6 of the Rivalry Cup on Saturday night at 7:00pm at the Coliseum. An expected full house will have an opportunity to win well over $100,000.00 in prizes from Toys for Big Boys,, a 50/50 that could go to $20,000.00 and a $50,000.00 shootout prize as well as see what should be a great hockey game and the first 2000through the doors will receive a complimentary team picture.
