MANITOBA MOOSE TO HONOUR BOURDON
WINNIPEG, MB, October 8, 2008 - The Manitoba Moose will pay tribute to New Brunswick native Luc Bourdon with a celebration of his life when they open their 13th AHL season on Friday against the Hamilton Bulldogs.

Twenty year old Bourdon was killed on May 29th, 2008 when his motorcycle collided with a tractor near his hometown of Shippigan, NB.

During the pre-game skate on Friday all teammates will wear a #4 Bourdon jersey. After the game the jerseys will be auctioned off with the proceeds donated to charity.

The Moose will also show a video tribute celebrating Luc’s life and career.

For the remainder of this season with the exception of four October home games when the Moose will wear a pink patch in recognition of Brest Cancer Month they will wear #4 LB on the upper left chest of their home and away jerseys.

Prior to joining the Moose Bourdon was a star defenceman with the Val-d’Or Foreurs, Moncton Wildcats, and Cape Breton Screaming Eagles from 2003-2008 and before that with Miramichi Major Midget Rivermen. 

Over his time in the QMJHL he played in 200 regular season and 39 playoff games scoring a total of 25 goals while adding 105 assists along the way and played on a President’s Cup winner in Moncton during the 2005-06 season. The team went all the way to the Memorial Cup final where they lost to the Quebec Remparts.

The Vancovuer Canucks selected Bourdon 10th overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Bourdon was one of the last cuts at the training camp later that Fall.

At the conclusion of the 2005-06 season Vancouver signed Bourdon to an entry level contract and he played nine games for Vancouver to start that season before being returned to the Wildcats for the 2006-07 season. The Wildcats traded him to Cape Breton so that he could participate in another President's Cup run.

Bourdon joined the Moose when Cape Breton was eliminated from the playoffs in 2007 going pointless in five games. 

Last season Bourdon added 14 points (6G, 8A) over 41 games with the Moose and went pointless in six playoff games.

In 27 games with the Canucks Bourdon scored two goals.
