PENDER MAKES AHL DEBUT WITH LOWELL
|
LOWELL, MA, April 13, 2009 - Former Halifax Mooseheads rearguard Justin Pender made his AHL debut Friday night when he suited up for the Lowell Devils as they hosted the Hartford Wolfpack at the Paul Tsongas Arena in Lowell, MA .
The 20 year-old native of St. John's, NL, managed a pair of assists in his first two games with the Devils during the weekend. Pender assisted on Patrick Davis's goal 5:06 into the second to tie the game for Lowell at 1-1 in a game that the Devils would go on to win 3-2 in a shootout. From 2005-06 to 2008-09 Pender patroled the blueline in 203 regular season games scoring 16 goals and adding 53 assists along the way. He also played in 27 post season games adding another four goals and nine assists. A noted tough guy, he played this past season as both a defenceman and a forward. He missed much of January with injuries.
Pender, who is six-foot-four and 218 lbs, is on an amateur tryout with the Devils. --hockeyscene.com correspondent Denise Smith
