The Board of Directors of the newly appointed Halifax Jr A Hockey Organization made the announce of the name of their new franchise Friday
“The name Lions, came naturally, as it commands the energy of team spirit to our organization. It is deeply rooted in tradition dating back to the early 80’s, was very successful in it’s 10 year existence and is well known throughout the Halifax marketplace” explained Team President John Keizer.
The original Lions won five League championships, made three national championship appearances and played in the Centennial Cup final in 1988.
“The Pride is coming back to Hailfax” Keizer noted.
The club gets will open it's training camp this Monday at the Halifax Forum.
“Coach (Tyler) Naugler has been active since the league’s June draft assembling talent to compete for spots in our hockey program and is very pleased with the prospects attending this year’s camp”, stated the president.
All 27 home games for the Lions will take place at the Halifax Forum on Tuesday evenings beginning mid September.
“Since receiving league approval to purchase and relocate the former Antigonish Bulldogs in early June, we have accomplished many goals and are on target to ice a contender" Keizer added.
"We have identified a number of shareholders who share a common vision for a successful junior A hockey franchise in this marketplace and have assembled a talented Board of Directors with diverse backgrounds within business, hockey and community."
"In addition, we have an aggressively designed hockey program led by Tyler Naugler and his team of supporters."
“Throughout the next few weeks we will focus on our sponsorship program, ticket sales and prepare our hockey club for the season opener.”
