N.S. ELITE NOVICE RAIDERS MAKE FINAL GAME
MONCTON, NB, June 19, 2008 - The Novice Major Nova Scotia Raiders team recently caped off a great spring hockey season by reaching the championship game at the prestigious Montreal Meltdown tournament held in Pierrefonds, Québec June 13 – 15. The tournament included Elite teams from Canada as well as the United States

The Raiders are part of the Atlantic Hockey Group (AHG) an organization dedicated to the development of advanced hockey players, male and female, in Atlantic Canada. Founded in 1990, the AHG program has become the most successful in Atlantic Canada. The program features 100 teams from Novice to Bantam levels, situated in every region of Atlantic Canada and the state of Maine. 



The Novice Major Raiders team is made up of players born in 1999 coming from all regions Nova Scotia. The team is coached by Graham McLeod from the Dartmouth Minor Hockey Association. Assistant coaches are Kevin Marshall, Ken Scott and Bruce Gallagher. The team manager is Barb Scott.

The Raiders began tournament play on Friday with with a 3–1 win versus the Montreal Pro-Edge and a 5–2 win versus the Wolverines. On Saturday the Raiders began their day with a 5–3 loss to the Québec Gouverneurs Richelieu and bounced back with a 5–1 win versus the Montreal Ice Storm.

On playoff Sunday the Raiders began their march to the championship with an exciting 2-1 overtime win versus the Montreal Hub City in the quarter final game. The Raiders advanced to the championship game with a 5–0 win versus the Ice Storm in the semi finals. The Championship game featured two teams from the Atlantic Hockey Group. The New Brunswick Stars also made it to the final. The game featured some great hockey with the Stars scoring a late goal to take an exciting 2–1 victory.

The Raiders Elite Hockey program has a very proud history and tradition as it continues to play a significant role in providing a great environment for young advanced hockey players, male and female, to develop their hockey and life skills. Many former players have progressed to play university as well as professional hockey. Two of the more well known Raiders alumni members are Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins and James Sheppard of the Minnesota Wild.
