SLEDGE HOCKEY ARRIVES IN THE MARITIMES
|
HALIFAX, NS, July 30, 2008 – Hockey Nova Scotia in conjunction with the Dartmouth Whalers Minor Hockey Association has announced the formation of the first organized sledge hockey program in Atlantic Canada.
Canadian National Sledge Hockey team member Billy Bridges held a demonstration and assisted in the announcement at the Dartmouth Sportsplex Tuesday.
“Today was a wonderful and important day for sledge hockey in Atlantic Canada,” said Darren Cossar, executive director of Hockey Nova Scotia, who made the announcement .
The Dartmouth Minor Hockey Association will house the program and those interested will be able to register through that association.
“I have been watching my brother play for a long time, now it’s my turn to take to the ice,” said Nicole Durand, local sledge hockey player.
Registration, which is to begin mid August, will carry a $160.00 registration fee, and is open to all players, male and female who fall under the minor hockey age range.
