DIEPPE TO HOST STREET HOCKEY TOURNAMENT

DIEPPE, NB, August 13, 2008 - Dieppe – To help launch the 2008-09 hockey season the City of Dieppe is hosting the first street hockey tournament in in the city's downtown. Individuals and teams are being invited to register for scheduled event to take place Saturday and Sunday, September 6th and 7th, at Place 1604.
Registration is free for youth 18 years old or less, and $100 per team for adults. A maximum of six players and one goalie per team will be accepted.
Participants aged 18 or less will be divided into three categories: 10-12 years old, 13-16 and 16-18. Adults will also be classified into three categories: men recreational, men competitive and women.
Matches will be played from 8 am to 8 pm on Saturday, and from 8 am to 3 pm on Sunday, on Gauvin Road near the Dieppe Market.
People interested have until Friday August 22nd to register. For those registered, there will be a compulsory pre-registration for youth on Friday, September 5th, from 12 noon to 4:30 pm at Dieppe City Hall, and adults will pre-register on Saturday, September 6th, from 8 am to 11am. Teams will receive a copy of the program and rules as they pre-register.
“The City of Dieppe is pleased to be able to present this amusing sports event for the first time in its downtown”, stated Mayor Jean LeBlanc. “I invite all street hockey enthusiasts to register in order to participate in our initial tournament”.
A limit of teams has been established for each category: a maximum of 8 teams will be accepted in each of the youth categories, 16 teams for men and 8 teams for women.
Several prizes will be awarded including a Molson Brewery visit for adult teams, and a day with the Dieppe Commandos for the winning teams in the youth categories.
Besides the street hockey games, participants and spectators will be able to enjoy a Playstation 3 centre provided by Easyhome, a Bar-B-Q on Saturday at noon, and the music of Velvet Jesse and Ladder Gabriel on Saturday evening at 8 pm.
