FOUR ATLANTIC CANADIANS AT UNDER 18 CAMP
CALGARY, AB, July 23, 2009 - Pictou County is represented on the ice and behind the bench at the national women's under-18 hockey team selection camp in Calgary. The pair from Nova Scotia's north shore are among four Atlantic Canadians at the event.

Goalie Carmen MacDonald, from Pictou, is on the roster for Team Red, while Westville native Lisa Jordan is one of the assistant coaches for Team Canada. Forty of Canada's top U18 women hockey players have been invited to the camp which is underway at the Father David Bauer Olympic Arena.

MacDonald, 17, played last season for Westminster School in the U.S. She is just one of three Atlantic Canadians asked to attend the camp. The others are forward Jillian Saulnier of Halifax, who is also on Team Red, while Newfoundland's Sarah Davis, who is from Paradise, is a forward with Team White.

Saulnier plays with a women's team in Stoney Creek, ON while Davis is studying and playing at Warner Academy

Players are competing for 22 spots on Team Canada which faces off against the U.S. women's U18 select team in a three-game series in Calgary from August 24-27. Canada has won four of the six summer meetings all-time with the United States.

The final roster for the series will be announced in early August.

The Red and White teams will practise throughout the week and play four intersquad games.
The camp wraps up with a five-on-five game on Thursday, July 30.

Following the three-game series against the U.S., Hockey Canada officials will evaluate players at the 2009 national women's U18 championship in Surrey, B.C., and with their home teams.

The final national team will compete at the 2010 IIHF World Women's U18 Championship, March 27-April 3 in the U.S.
