HOA TEAM GETS ONE POINT OF FOUR
|
MARLBOROUGH, MA, July 25, 2009 - A goal with 37 seconds to go tied the game 4-4 and prevented HOA from getting its first win in it's final game of round robin play at the Eastern Hockey Showcase being played this weekend at the New England Sports Center.
HOA had battled back to take a 4-3 lead over Valley A with 3:57 to go but were not able to hang on. An unassisted goal by Chris Ivenko with 53 seconds to go in the first period left the teams tied 1-1 after the first period.
After Valley went up 2-1 early in the first Travis Moore evened up the score again, with help from Travis Nevin and Jonathan Gillis, only to have Valley go ahead 3-2 just 8 seconds later. Stephen Horyl then tied the score at 3-3 just over two minutes later from Dana Fraser. Moore then gave HOA it's only lead from Doug Burns and Fraser.
Jesse Cox was in net for HOA
Both teams finished with a 0-2-1 record. HOA was two for six on the powerplay while Valley was one for 10.
Earlier in the day HOA opened with a 2-0 first period lead against Apple Core, only to give up five second period goals en route to a 5-3 loss.
Stephen Horyl opened the scoring at 6:14 of the opening period from Dakota Johnson and Ivanko. Just before the end of the period Moore made the score 2-0 from Horyl and Ivanko.
After Apple Core scored four unanswered goals in a span of less than 12 minutes in the second period, Casey Babineau brought HOA back within a goal but Apple Core scored an empty-netter to put the game on ice.
HOA was one for five on the powerplay while Apple Core failed to convert on any of their five opportunities.
Alex Scola made 21 saves in net in the game.
All games at the Showcase consist of two 25-minute periods.
