BRECLAV, CZECH REPUBLIC, August 15, 2009 - Brandon Gormley, Jeffrey Skinner and Tyler Seguin each scored two goals as Team Canada skated to a 9-2 victory over Team Russia in the championship game of the Memorial Of Ivan Hlinka tournament played in Slovakia and the Czech Republic over the past week.

Moncton Wildcats goaltender Louis Domingue stopped 2o of 22 Russian shots in the victory.

Gormley of Murray River, PEI who is a defenceman with the Wildcats scored the first and the third and game winning goals for Team Canada. Sean Couturier of Bathurst, Nb, who plays with Drunnondville Voltigeurs in the QMJHL assisted on Gormley’s first goal.

A four-goal second period turned a tight, one-goal game into a runaway as Canada topped the Russians for gold for the second year in a row. .

“It's not easy having a bunch of kids coming from different areas of the country and having to, one bond as a team, and two have different coaching with different systems they haven't played before,” said Head Coach Bob Boughner, who coached the QMJHL chamion Drummondville Voltigeurs last season and will return home to coach the AHL Hamilton Bulldogs. “I thought they came together and really meshed as a group and started playing the right way.

“They played to the Canadian identity.”
