HALIFAX, NS, September 2, 2009 - Three Nova Scotian hockey players settled in at Shattuck St. Mary's School this past weekend in preparation for a rigorous academic and athletic schedule at the prestigious institution.
First year students Nathan MacKinnon and Blayre Turnbull have joined Alexis Crossley at the Minnesota school known for it's extraordinary hockey program and challenging academics.
MacKinnon played a key role for the Cole Harbour Bantam AAA's and is going into grade 9 and will play in the Bantam Tier One program or U16's.
Turnbull, from Pictou County, played for the Northern Storm of the Nova Scotia Female Midget Hockey League and is a grade 11 honors student who will play for either the U16 or U19 team.
Crossley, from Cole Harbour, is entering her second season with the Sabres and is hoping to get another crack at the USA National Championship in the female program.
All three will represent Nova Scotia at the upcoming Atlantic Challenge Cup in Moncton, New Brunswick in early October.
The three student athletes hit the ice this coming week with their respective programs along with 157 other hockey players amongst the 430 students at the school. The school has 8 hockey teams and each practices on ice 5 days a week, has team conditioning 3 days a week, and plays a tough 50-60 game schedule throughout the season leading up to the National Tournaments.
